Four fine Czech musicians bring three masterworks from their homeland: Smetana’s troubled second quartet expresses the torment of his increasing deafness, whilst Janacek’s charts the progress of his hopeless love for a young married woman. Dvorak’s last chamber-music piece is a joyous, tender summation of all he knew and felt both about the art of string-quartet writing and his native Bohemia.
