Folkworks: Winter Workout Day
Tutors: Kris Drever, Bella Hardy, Lori Watson, Calum MacCrimmon
The Folkworks Winter Workout is a bespoke day of intermediate and advanced workshops for all instrumentalists and singers keen to expand their repertoire and technique. Each workshop is a stand-alone session, so through our Ticket Office you can book a selection of individual workshops to attend throughout the day. The day will end with an informal sharing of the work from the final session.

Workshops with Calum McCrimmon
Northern Rock Foundation Hall
Calum McCrimmon is a piper and whistle player who graduated from the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Dance in 2004 and currently plays in the Unusual Suspects & Braebach and his solo album is now available.

Workshops with Bella Hardy
MEC
Bella Hardy is a Derbyshire singer who first attended our Folkworks Youth Summer School aged 13. She went on to gain a Masters in Music at Newcastle University before launching her first album ‘Night Visiting’. Bella’s love of song and storytelling is clear in her approach.

The Barbour Room
Kris Drever was nominated for Folk Singer of the Year in 2011 BBC Folk Awards. Possibly most well known for his work in Folk Super Group, Lau, Kris’ approach to song and guitar playing is highly respected and celebrated.

Workshops with Lori Watson
MEC
Lori Watson is a border fiddle player. Currently a lecturer, honours supervisor and performance examiner to Scottish Music degree students at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland (formerly RSAMD), fiddle tutor for Newcastle University’s Folk and Traditional Music degree and a sought-after workshop leader for all levels.

A classic Folkworks concert, taking four superb musicians brought together for a day of workshop teaching and presenting them in an evening concert showing their individual talents and different musical styles.
Kris Drever (Lau) (Nominated as BBC Folk Singer of the Year), Fiddler Lori Watson (Rule of Three, Border Young Fiddles), singer and fiddle player Bella Hardy and Calum MacCrimmon (Man’s Ruin, Unusual Suspects, Braebach) each perform solo – while unique pairings and joint numbers may develop for this night only.
